Notification Regarding Water Testing

Notification:

Public Act 099-0922, was passed into law on January 2017. The Act requires the local education agency to test for lead in all water sources used for cooking and drinking in schools built on or before January 1, 2000, where more than 10 pre-kindergarten-5th grade children are present. We completed our testing on November 21, 2017. The results which we received on January 5, 2018 indicate that we have levels above the 2 ppb as established by the State of Illinois. All the areas are located in the kitchen and the elementary building. We are in the process of mitigating the areas by changing the water filters.  All water fountains in the hallways of the elementary building will be turned off until we have corrected the  problem. We will have alternate sources of water available for our students during the mitigation process.

All the water fountains is the high school and gym area passed inspection.  The State of Illinois use a stricter measurer of parts per billion of lead in the water versus the federal level. The state uses a 2 ppb versus the federal level of 20 ppb.

Areas of building with lead levels above the 2ppb – two tests were taken at each source – the first draw of the day followed by what is call a flush draw.

Kitchen – Prep Left – 7.45ppb – first draw

Kitchen – Prep Right – 5.92 ppb – first draw

Outside Faculty Restrooms – 2.60ppb/3.08ppb – first draw/flush

Outside Room 207 – 2.30ppb/2.39ppb first draw/flush

Outside Room 205 2.82ppb – flush

Atrium -2.32ppb/4.04ppb first draw/flush

Outside Nurses Office – 5.01ppb – first draw

Outside Room 209 – 2.26ppb – flush
