Delivering excellence in Christ-centered education to meet the spiritual, academic and social needs of its students

ABC

ABC serves children enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8. It replaces neither the home nor school, but compliments both by enriching that which each of these institutions provide.  We will be offering a wide variety of age-appropriate activities in a safe and loving environment. We hope you consider us your partner in caring for your children.

Purposes and Goals of ABC – After/Before Care

The ABC Program provides a Christian atmosphere where children can learn and grow.  Daily worship and sharing times will reinforce these Christian values.  Our program will provide children with a curriculum designed to enhance growth in these areas:  spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social.  It is our philosophy that children need a safe and stimulating environment where they can develop in a positive manner.   We believe children need love, understanding, and mutual respect.  We are excited to have you as part of our program.  Please feel free to contact the ABC Director for any questions or concerns.

Daily Activities

The ABC Program provides daily snacks, homework time, sharing time, art and science projects, indoor and outdoor activities. All children will receive the opportunity for outdoor play.  Periodically special speakers will be brought in.  A fall party and Christmas party is planned; as well as an Easter celebration.

Discipline Policy

Since all students who are enrolled in either the AM or PM extended care are first a student of the Lutheran School Association, the policies of the school, as outlined in the school Parent Handbook are followed. Appropriate behavior during the school day is also expected and enforced during the After/Before Care Program.

The ABC Program will utilize the 1-2-3 method of discipline.  If after 2 warnings a behavior persists the child is placed in a time out (usually 5 – 10 minutes) away from the rest of the group’s activities.  If behavior continues an Incident Report will be filled out which must be read and signed by parent at pick-up time.  This report will be kept in the child’s file. We desire to work with you as parents to provide a positive and safe environment for your child.

Arrival and Departure Policy

Parents (guardians) are required to sign children in with the supervisor when they arrive at AM care and as they are picked up from PM care.  Only parents or authorized persons may take a child from the extended day care program.  Staff will check for a picture ID and written authorization on all persons unfamiliar to them.  Anyone without proper authorization will be stopped from taking a child.  Parents will be called immediately if this occurs.  This is for your child’s protection.  If you need to add or remove a person from the pick up list, please notify the ABC Director.

In a situation where a person appears incapable of driving and adequately caring for your child, the child will not be released.  Staff will contact other authorized persons to pick up the child.

Accidents and Injuries

Minor injuries occurring at the ABC – After/Before Care Program will be treated and documented by the staff.  In case of an emergency the parent will be contacted.  If parent cannot be reached the other emergency adults provided on the ABC enrollment form will be called.

All medications and inhalers must be brought to the school office by the parent and can be taken during extended day care school hours.  All medications will be stored in the school office.  Written instructions must accompany the medication.  Any prescription drugs must be sent to school in a properly labeled pharmaceutical container along with the doctor’s written orders.

Medical conditions of a chronic nature such as epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, heart conditions, hyperactivity, etc. should be reported to the ABC Director.

Inclement Weather

If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, the ABC Program is also cancelled.  If school is cancelled after children have arrived, childcare will be in session until all children are picked up.  If weather poses a threat, your consideration in picking up the child(ren) in a timely manner will be appreciated.
